Thera News

THERAN
COUNCILORS
The “Thera News” have no commitment, nor obligation to any of the candidate councilors who have been promoted during their twenty-year publication. They are still owed the expenses for publishing pre-election and post-election announcements and photographs. This applies to Councilor Mr. Emm. Batila, Deputy Minister Mr. M. Protopapadakis, Councilor Mr. Evagg. Anerousis, and all others without exception.
The “Thera News,” out of patriotic duty alone, promoted the candidacy of Mr. Emm. Batila in the recent parliamentary elections. Whether he proves worthy of the trust of the majority of the Therians will be shown by his actions to resolve their problems and his general activity.
This is to clarify certain fantasies and rumors.

PROFESSIONALS
The article titled: “Buses, taxis, restaurants” by Mr. Anargyros G. Platis, a judge in Athens and general secretary of the S.O.F.O., and the published responses of Mr. Palamas Mendrinou, president of the Commercial and Professional Association of Thera, and Messrs. Eleftherios Mendrinou, lawyer; Grigoris Dim. Koutsogiannopoulos, merchant and shipping agent; and Georgios Giannakoulia, former president of the E.P. Club of Thera, as well as an article in the December issue of the magazine “Naviki Ellas,” demonstrate that the conditions for serving visitors to Santorini are not what they should be.

Once again, we repeat that the professionals of Thera must themselves improve these conditions for their own benefit, in order to stop both the complaints and the imposed sanctions.

Taking over the management of the Th. N. again
Taking over the management of the newspaper “Thera News” again, I do so to respond to the wishes of compatriots I respect and to state by name certain thoughts of mine regarding Thera affairs, taking responsibility for what I write, as I have done in the past.
The reasoning of the exonerating work and the depositions of the witnesses for the defense and prosecution, except for one, in the well-known lawsuit against me, were undoubtedly a great moral satisfaction for me. I hope they will serve as a lesson to the main actors in this sad story and their accomplices. I had considered, in returning like for like, to remind them of all the things they

LETTERS TO THE “THIRAICA NEA”
BUILDERS AND I.K.A.
Dear Editor,
I had the opportunity to visit
Santorini for my professional
work. I admired the sights of
your island and was particularly
pleased that this area has a local
press, the “Thiraica Nea,” which
with special care highlights many
of the local issues.
I do not wish to address the
problems of your region, which
you know better anyway, but
rather to ask you to publish my
letter, which concerns solely one
issue affecting the two hundred
or more skilled construction
workers who exist

in the sector (this can be proven
with data from Community
Presidents or other competent
authorities).
You understand the injustice
when a senior citizen aged 65
or even 85 is forced to work on
construction sites because they
have no other means to live,
despite being eligible for a
pension.
Also, I inform you that this
Law is valid until 27-6-78, so
you must publish my letter so
that interested parties can
submit their construction
documents in time.
