P.N.M.
Markellos presents a strong personality; like Theotokopoulos, he is inspired by Spain. In his compositions for Madrid and Segovia,
the light of spring, the sunset of summer, the gray
The autumn or the stormy winter sky are painted with impressive power, with a strong personal character and freedom in composition.
Federico Calindo
"'DIGAM,., Madrid 1955
Markellos represents the luminous school of painting with free and active brushstrokes. His paintings, beyond their explosive color shades, reveal many hidden values with their unique quality of a strong internal structure.
Fignerola Ferreti
"'ARRIBA,., Madrid 1956
Markellos is brilliant in his colors and generous with light, but never aggressive to the eye. He truly absorbs the landscapes of Castile with a feeling deeper and warmer than some of the Masters of the Spanish school.
Mariano Tomas
"'MADRID,., Madrid 1955
Markellos possesses a deep sense of light and color. His work is of quality.
Alfonso Sanchez
"'INFORMACIONES,., Madrid 1955
The architectural structure, the characteristic movement, the sensitive work with the brush, and the capture of light are the graces in Markellos's physiognomy as a painter. A deep talent and his artistic sensitivity combine with certainty and freedom in the expression of one of the most significant aspects of his work: the structure of space. He speaks with forms and shades in his landscapes from Spain and uses without hesitation golden yellows and bloody reds.
Dimitris Kallonas
"'VRADINI,., Athens 1958
Markellos is a brilliant painter with work of high quality, sensitivity, and emotion. His artistic creations are at a high level and always carry a sense of responsibility, strength, and courage.
M. Constantopoulos
"'ACROPOLIS,., Athens 1958
The rich gift of color and light, the construction of characteristic environments, the personal way in which he presents his subject, shows that he has certainly mastered the way to express himself.
Giulio Montenero
Director of the Revoltella Museum, Trieste
«lL PICCOLO» Trieste April 22, 1969
Markellos, with continuous references to data of centuries, composes a world in which the atmosphere is luminous, the landscapes and seascapes are flooded with light, with a clear and deep sea.
Carlo Milic
