Under the patronage of the National League, an exhibition of European works by Th. Markellos took place in the large exhibition hall of Parnassos. The artist arrived in Athens and has his studio with five pictorial distinctions. With scholarships, he studied his works at the National School of Fine Arts in Madrid and Paris. His works are found in many collections in Greece and abroad. The 100 pieces of his European Parisian works create a characteristic and beautiful atmosphere in the exhibition hall. The works present well-chosen forms of Paris, as well as beautiful images of it, namely "Seine after the rain" and "Twilight over the Seine," etc.
In a transformative style, each one of the exceptional works gives a romantic and ironic presence to the public through the sonorous light. The light in Markellos' works is a painting that, for its breadth, seems to pause. This same light that captivates the viewer's gaze and the delicate tones.
It is a great number of unexplored works that particularly impress me. Thinking generally about Markellos' exhibition, I believe it offers beautiful opportunities for intellectual journeys.
Under the patronage of the Franco-Hellenic League, the painting exhibition of Mr. Theodore Markellos was held in the “Parnassos” Hall.
The painter was born in Athens, graduated from the Ecole des Beaux Arts of Athens with five honorable distinctions. He won scholarships and continued his studies in the Ecole des Beaux Arts of Madrid and of Paris. His works can be found in many collections in Greece and abroad.
A hundred paintings of Paris created a very characteristic and beautiful atmosphere in the exhibition hall. The paintings represented well-chosen corners of Paris as well as beautiful moments of it, like “La Seine après la pluie” or “Crépuscule sur la Seine”.
In a most impressionistic mannerism, each one of the lovely tableaux is giving us a romantic and peaceful presence in the timid light of cloudiness. The light of Mr. Markellos’ paintings is a song to cloudiness I would say,—this particular light that brings the forms forward and bonds the world closer together.
There is a great number of tableaux that impressed me in particular. But thinking generally about the Markellos painting exhibition, I think I was given beautiful motives, for infinite travels of mind.
