About This Work

Amber yields to violet over Alonissos Harbor, where anchored hulls hold still and bare masts mark the last of the light.

Evening settles over Alonissos Harbor, where moored fishing boats rest near the quay beneath a sky fading from amber to violet. Whitewashed buildings with terracotta roofs frame the calm expanse, their walls catching the last golden light while lavender shadows lengthen across stone steps. The water mirrors the sky in layered washes of cobalt and burnt sienna, broken only by the rhythmic verticals of masts and the gentle curves of hulls. Warm ochres and soft blues dominate the palette, accented by rust-red rooftops and olive-green shutters that offer quiet contrast without disrupting the whole. Brushwork shifts deliberately—smooth blends soften the sky and water surfaces, while textured strokes on sun-bleached wood and weathered plaster suggest material presence and tactile depth. The low, diffused evening glow casts elongated shadows and refined edges, catching highlights on wet surfaces that reinforce spatial clarity and temporal specificity. Empty streets and anchored vessels hold the scene in coastal quietude, suspended between day and night in the timeless rhythm of the Aegean. Light leans across stone and water in these final hours.
