About This Work
A canal curves past gabled brick façades and a low bridge, the water carrying the whole street back in grey-green.
There’s such a settled quiet to this street. The canal guides you along its bend, past a few small boats and figures, to where the last bridge fades into mist. The warmth in the brick, all ochres and muted reds, meets the cool blues and greens lifting from the water's surface. You can feel how steady the lines of the buildings are. But the canal and sky just breathe. That soft, even daylight pools in the shadows under the arches, and leaves just a hint of lavender in the clouds. A deep quiet holds over the houses, the kind that settles into a city used to its own reflection.
