About This Work
Heat sits over the whole landscape. The light catches on the ochre roofs, spilling across the hills as the afternoon settles.
There’s a stillness to this place, a quiet that has settled deep into the land. That low stone edge right in front of us… it just opens onto the roofs gathering among the green. And beyond them, the hills soften into lavender and haze. A little lane winds its way in and then just disappears. The buildings seem to have grown right from the earth, holding all that burnt sienna and ochre. See how the paint changes? It’s thick and close right here, but gets smoother, thinner, way out there. The light comes from high up, so gentle, pulling the shadows long and quiet across the slopes. The air feels still, holding the warmth of an hour that has not yet decided to end.
