Hydra, My Window
M1306
About This Work
A Hydra window holds the pale houses as they step down toward the harbour, the sill sun-warmed, the sea a deep blue beyond.
There’s a beautiful quiet here—the stillness of the room meeting all that sun and sea. The lines of the window hold us for a moment before letting the eye drift out, over the pale houses cascading down to the water. And the colors…the warm, earthy whites of the buildings press right up against the deep blues and violets of the sea. Little touches of green in a shutter, or terracotta on a roof, just enough to catch your eye. Up close, by the frame, you can almost feel the wood and stone in the paint. Then as you look farther out, the brushwork just dissolves, letting the distant rooftops and water breathe. Quiet settles across the harbour, holding the room and the island in one long, unhurried breath.
