Hydra, Two Boats at the Pier
N
About This Work
Two boats rest at Hydra’s pier, held between the island’s whitewashed buildings and the calm sea. Horizontals of water and sky find balance with the soft verticals of the architecture.
A pier extends on a diagonal, creating a path into the harbor. It secures one boat nearby, while another floats just beyond. The town’s buildings climb in clean whites and warm ochres against the deep cerulean and soft turquoise of the water. A pale sky holds faint clouds. Shadows pool under the pier and along the hulls in soft indigo and slate, cooling the light without dimming it. The midday sun touches the water through fluid washes and broken strokes. Fine lines imply the presence of ropes and masts, their details absorbed into the peaceful whole. With no people present, a reflective quiet settles over the port. Stillness breathes over the harbor.
