Mytilene, Molyvos Landscape, Horseman

About This Work
A lone rider diminishes against the terraced hills of Molyvos, the Aegean a pale band of light beyond.
The horseman holds the foreground just off-center, pulling the eye into layered slopes of sienna, olive green, and pale ochre. Stone houses and cobbled paths climb toward the distant village, their walls and rooftops caught in finer brushwork while broader strokes define the rolling terrain. Thicker paint gathers on sunlit ridges and vegetation, giving them a tactile presence. Light arrives from a lowering sun—even, forgiving—softening shadows and binding everything in one warm key. The afternoon settles slowly, and the scene holds the quiet of a single hour that will not come again.
