Segovia Houses, Snowy Mountains in Background
MK841
About This Work
Segovia's stone houses anchor the foreground in ochre and terracotta, while the Sierra's frozen ridges climb cold against the sky behind them.
There’s a deep quiet here, a stillness that settles over the whole village. The rooftops seem to carry your eye upward, plane by plane, toward the sharp shapes of the mountains. All the warmth is down here with the houses, in those burnt siennas and soft umbers. The mountains are all cool tones—icy blues and pale lavenders under that hazy sky. And the brushwork changes with the distance. It’s tighter on the stone, then softens for the sky and the far-off snow. Just a few thicker touches of paint catch the light on the highest ridges. A low winter sun traces the edges of things, but the shadows stay soft. A held quiet sits over everything, the kind that rests at the edge of a long winter morning.
