Skopelos from Heights, General View
MK986
About This Work
From up here, Skopelos descends in tiers: terracotta rooftops, then pale walls, then the long cerulean reach of open sea.
There’s a deep quiet to this view from above. The whole island unfolds from here, all those clustered houses with their warm terracotta roofs spilling toward that long horizon of sea and pale gold sky. Their bright whites rest against the deep, earthy tones of the land itself. The brushwork feels so free. See how those broken, horizontal strokes make the water breathe, and the way thicker paint catches the sun on a ridge? The light is sharp on the walls, but the shadows stay soft. Heat sits over everything, slow and patient, the way summer settles on stone.
