Arachova with Snow
MK1260
About This Work
Arachova under deep snow, its stone rooftops climbing the hillside, each ledge and cornice heavy with white.
There's a warmth held inside all this cool color. Look how the village climbs the hillside—stone houses stacked one on top of the other, their terracotta and ochre walls glowing against the distant blue of the mountains. Those small touches of burnt sienna seem to breathe life into the stone. And the shadows in the snow aren't just grey... they're almost lavender. You can feel the difference in the paint. The lines of the buildings are so clean and sure, but the snow is laid on thick, as if it just drifted there. The light is gentle, coming from everywhere at once, with no hard edges to break the quiet. A held silence settles over everything, slow and patient, the way a deep winter day feels.
