Corinthian Landscape with Acrocorinth and Sea in the Distance

About This Work
Ochre hills roll toward the rugged silhouette of Acrocorinth, its fortress walls catching the light. The distance feels vast.
The eye moves from scrubby foreground slopes diagonally up to the great rock at center, then drifts past it to a thin band of sea along the horizon. Earth tones—warm umber, olive green, pale taupe in the ancient stone—meet cooler blues and soft grays settling into the haze beyond. Brushwork shifts with the terrain: controlled thickness in the rocks and brush, smoother passes across the open sky. Daylight comes from the upper left, clear and even, modeling each ridge with gentle shadow and lifting cream highlights along sunlit walls. Faint violet undertones cool the hollows. The air sits quiet over the hills, holding the long afternoon in place.
