Fiskardo, Kefalonia: Boats and People
M860
About This Work
Fiskardo's quay anchors the composition — moored hulls clustered close, masts angled against the sienna rooftops beyond.
Everything here holds the gentle pace of a warm afternoon. Moored boats rest in the foreground, their masts cutting soft diagonals against the village. The houses are simple whitewash and sienna tile, with shutters of deep olive and touches of cobalt blue. Light is high and even. Look how it catches the shimmer of turquoise near the shore, casting lavender shadows under the eaves. The paint itself feels loose—letting the stone walls breathe and the small figures almost dissolve into the sun. Behind it all, the gentle hills just fade into a paler sky. The whole scene holds the slow rhythm of a Mediterranean afternoon, where time settles and the air feels still over the water.
