About This Work
Cobalt domes step down the volcanic rock, and beyond them the Aegean stretches out, flat and full of light.
A deep quiet settles over everything, held in the high, clear light. The village gathers itself to one side in a cascade of rooftops and terraces, letting the sea and sky open into a wide, silent space. The white of the walls is so clean against the deep blues of the domes and the water. Just a touch of warmth in the stone, and that soft hint of lavender at the edge of the world. Look how smooth the paint is on the buildings—the edges sharp and certain. But the water and sky feel different, thinner, as if the light is soaking right through the blue. The sun is high, making the shadows short and clean. Nothing moves. The whole place rests at that hour when the island holds its breath, and time slows over the rooftops.
