Kastania, Houses, Mountains

About This Work
Kastania presses close to the mountain, its ochre and terracotta rooftops stacked beneath peaks that cool to violet.
There's such a protective quiet here, the way the mountains hold the village. The houses cluster along the hill, their warm ochre and terracotta fronts answering the olive green of the lower slopes. The little rooftops and paths seem to guide you upward, out toward the peaks as they soften into a dusty blue. And see the texture? The paint is smoother on the sunlit walls, but becomes rougher in the rocky ground above. Light comes from the left. It just touches the edges of the roof tiles, leaving these soft, quiet shadows behind. Above it all, the air holds still, and the valley settles into a long, unhurried afternoon.
