Kastraki, the Red House, Snow
M1434
About This Work
A single terracotta house anchors the snow-covered valley, its red walls set against the pale ground and the rock spires above.
A deep stillness settles over this valley. Your eye drifts across the white ground to find the house, then keeps climbing the tall rock spires rising behind it. The world is mostly soft grays and whites, which makes that deep red feel so present. You can see hints of ochre and rust working through the stone. The light is so soft, so even, the kind that erases hard shadows. A hushed cold hangs over everything, but the house carries a small, steady warmth right at its center.
