Leonidio, Houses and Rocks
M1018
About This Work
Leonidio's pale houses crowd the foot of the Parnon cliffs, built close against stone that makes no concession to their scale.
The whole village seems to hold its breath against the stone. Its rooftops step down the hillside in blocks of chalk-white and cream, while the cliffs rise right behind them—all earth tones that deepen into shadow. The light is so clear. It falls from the left, catching on small ridges of thick paint along the rooflines and settling crisp shadows into the rock. There's just a bit of muted green at the edges, enough to give the scene air. The whole place rests in its own quiet, as if the afternoon has agreed to wait.
