About This Work
Pale cobblestones stretch between ochre facades at midday, a few small figures moving unhurried through the heat.
This whole place seems to be holding its breath in the sun. The pale cobblestones open up, drawing you in between buildings of warm ochre and sienna. See the people scattered there? Just small strokes of paint, but they give the buildings such scale and make the scene feel so alive. And the color… that warm terracotta on the roofs resting against the cool lavender in the shaded arcades. The brush feels so steady on the shutters and balconies, then loosens into softness around the figures and greenery. Light falls from high overhead, cutting a clean edge along each arch before spilling into shade. The air feels still, holding the murmur of an afternoon that refuses to hurry.
