Milan, Square with Statue
M715
About This Work
A dark bronze statue anchors the Milanese square, its weathered form rising against pale stone under a diffuse, shadowless light.
The whole square seems to hold its breath. See how the buildings on either side open a path right to the statue. Their walls are all warm earth tones—ochre and sienna—with soft greys pooling in the shadows under the arches. A few people drift across the stones. They’re so small. It makes you feel the scale of the place. The light is gentle, falling evenly over everything, with no hard shadows. If you lean in, you can almost feel the texture of the paint on the foreground stone, so different from the smoothness of the hazy sky. A quiet dignity rests over the square, slow and unhurried.
