Monk

About This Work
A candle, a worn book, a small wooden bowl — three objects on a bare surface, and nothing more.
A deep quiet surrounds these few things. The space around them seems to hold them, giving each one its own weight. The colors are almost entirely earth and shadow, deep umbers and ochres. Then you see it—that thin line of warm light catching the candle's edge. The brushwork is so patient. You can feel the grain in the wood and the soft fray of the linen. Light comes in gently from one side, letting shadows rest without any drama. It feels as if the monk has only just stepped away, and the quiet he left behind still carries in the air.
