Nerantza Sea
MK1830
About This Work
Rocks anchor the foreground, and beyond them the sea stretches wide — deep cerulean fading to a pale shore far off.
The whole scene just opens out to the water. Your eye follows the foreground rocks and then drifts across that great expanse of sea, all the way to the soft line of coast in the distance. The water holds such deep blues, broken only where light catches the surface in touches of white and ochre. There is just a hint of green. The quietest touch, right at the shore. The brushwork is fluid on the water, but the strokes get firmer on the rocks, shaping them against the light. And that light is so direct, leaving cool shadows sharp against the sunlit stone. Midday holds steady here, and the warm hush of citrus air rests at the edge of the water.
