Zagora, Houses, Cloudy Sky
MK1833
About This Work
Zagora's ochre walls and terracotta rooftiles climb the slope beneath a low, even gray sky.
The whole village seems to hold a patient quiet, the houses climbing the gentle slope in a soft rhythm. Warm ochre on the walls and the muted red of the tiles are pulled together by quiet lavender shadows. Look at the brushwork—so deliberate on the buildings, but it breathes and loosens in the clouds above. The light is soft. It comes from everywhere and nowhere, letting gentle shifts in color describe the shapes of things. A hush settles over the village, patient under the weight of an overcast afternoon.
