Nerantza Street with Red House
MK985
About This Work
One red house on Nerantza Street holds the eye, its vermilion set hard against the pale ochre of plastered walls.
A deep quiet settles over this street. Your eye just follows the narrow lane down, doesn't it, right to that pop of red. The tiled roofs and plastered walls frame the path in sun-bleached whites and earthy ochres, all resting against the cool shadows on the cobblestones. The light is so direct—you can see it in the thick paint catching on the roof tiles and wall corners. But then the brushwork softens, and the shadows pooling in the doorways feel so deep and still. There's no one here. Just the houses themselves, breathing. Heat settles into the plaster and holds there, patient through the slow hour of the afternoon.
