Orange Tree
MK28
About This Work
A single orange tree stands centered against pale sky, its trunk climbing straight from the lower third into an open, fruit-laden canopy.
The trunk rises from the lower third, branching outward into an uneven canopy that fills the upper portion of the panel. Pale sky frames the tree on every side, isolating it and pulling the eye upward along the bark. Earthy ochre and burnt sienna define the trunk, while the leaves shift between deep emerald and olive, punctuated by ripe orange. Foliage is built up in dabbed, stippled touches that suggest density without losing individual fruit, and smoother passages model the larger branches. Light arrives from the upper left, soft and diffused, rounding the canopy with gentle shadow. Midday quiet settles over the scene, holding the tree in its own slow, sunlit hour.
