Outside the Door

A doorway sits off-centre, its frame catching low light, the land beyond it spreading flat beneath an open sky.

A deep quiet settles over this space, a stillness at the edge of the world outside. The door is set to one side, letting the landscape draw you through into that wider field of ground and sky. Earthy ochres and umbers hold the lines of the building, then give way to muted olive and dusty green in the distance. The brushwork changes as it moves. It’s tighter around the doorframe, but then it breathes out, looser across the foliage and the far ground. Light arrives at a low angle, laying long shadows across the step. The air feels still, paused at the line between inside and out, as if someone has just left or is about to return.
