Andros Landscape with Many Yellows
MK1736
About This Work
Yellow spreads across the land in waves, golden ochre folding into pale lemon and amber. Heat sits over the hills.
The whole landscape seems to hold its breath under the sun. The brightest yellows are right here in front of us, on sun-bleached stone and dry grass, and they soften as the land rolls back. Earthy tones give the ground its form against that thin band of muted blue sky. Look how the paint itself feels thicker where the light is strongest, catching on the raised surfaces. Then it just dissolves into a haze on the far hills. The light is high, almost directly overhead, softening all the shadows. The air feels still, holding the slow weight of summer over the island.
