Andros Seashore with Rocks
MK440
About This Work
Andros rocks anchor the foreground, worn and solid, as the tide's retreating lines carry the eye out toward open Aegean water.
A deep quiet rests on this shore, older than the afternoon itself. The light is low, coming in from the side. It just catches the warm ochre on the faces of the rocks, while the shadows and the sea hold their cool grays and deep teals. The lines where the tide has pulled back draw you out, to where the whole world softens at the horizon. Even the sky holds a little warmth, a faint lavender and gold. The paint is different, too—fluid for the water, but so thick and dry on the stone you can almost feel its rough weight. A quiet holds this shore, the kind of hush that settles when time forgets the hour.
