Approaching Storm
MK220
About This Work
Slate blue clouds press down over an open landscape, their undersides bruised with violet. A weight presses down on everything, charged before the first drop.
There’s a deep stillness in this moment, isn't there? The whole landscape feels taut. The sky is given so much room to swell above the land holding firm below. The foreground is sharp with rocks and scrub, pulling you back across the ochre and umber earth toward muted greens. See those faint pale walls, way back? And that light—just a single shaft of pale yellow breaks through the clouds, catching one ridge while the rest falls into shadow. The light is so low, stretching everything sideways. The whole scene just holds its breath, waiting for the wind to turn.
