Cypriot Landscape

About This Work
The ochre hills hold the late sun, their ridges drawn in long, dry shadow. Heat sits over everything.
The whole landscape feels held in the quiet of the late light. Your eye drifts over low stone walls and scattered cypress, toward those pale hills that dissolve into the sky. The earth is all burnt sienna and umber, answered by muted olive greens. See that thin wash of gold along the upper slopes? Even the paint changes with the land—smooth in the distance, but drier and rougher on the rocks. A few thick touches of white catch the last of the sun on a wall. Tucked into the folds of the hills, a village rests. The air carries that dry stillness of a Mediterranean afternoon, and time settles with it.
