Hydra, Red Kitchen with Well
M2085
About This Work
Weight presses down in this room. The red walls seem to close in around the well, its dark mouth holding the quiet at the very center of things.
There’s a warmth to this kitchen, a deep, saturated heat that rises from the walls themselves. That red is broken only by the earthy tones of wood and stone, and the soft gleam of a few copper pots. Look at the rim of the well—the paint is thick there, catching the light. The light spills from somewhere off to the side, softening the shapes of things and leaving the back of the room in a low, even glow. The room feels still, holding the hush of an afternoon settled into its own routine.
