Still Life, Bottle

About This Work
One bottle, placed just off-center, draws the entire composition into itself against an open ground of shadow.
The whole painting holds its breath around this one object. All that open space to the left just gives it room to be. The color is all earth tones—muted olive and dusty umber, with cooler greys gathering in the deep shadow at its base. The brushwork itself changes as you follow it. It’s smooth and blended across the body, but see how the paint gets thicker, more deliberate, right where light catches the rim? That light falls from the upper left, shaping the curve in such slow, soft gradations. The edges just soften as they turn away from us into the quiet. A patient kind of silence rests at the edge of the light.
