Madrid Crowd Near a Cypress Close to My House

A single dark cypress rises above a cluster of Madrid neighbours, its narrow vertical cutting cleanly through the ochre afternoon light.

A quiet seems to settle over this little gathering. The people at its base are just a soft mass of gestures, their faces mostly turned from us. The whole scene is held in these warm earth tones—ochre meeting dusty green—with little touches of red in their clothes. The late light softens every edge, unifying the tree and the people into one single breath. The paint is thick in the foliage, but the crowd is suggested with just a few quick marks. A quiet weight rests over the gathering, the kind a familiar street carries near evening.
