About This Work
Look at how these pale ochre pinnacles rise into a soft sky, their edges just catching the light. Heat sits over everything.
A quiet majesty rises with the rock itself. Your eye travels up from the muted green earth, past weathered bands of umber and stone, following those great vertical shafts. And then there are the monasteries, clinging to the summits. See their small domes and walls? They feel so carefully placed. The paint is thinner in the distant hills, where the air washes into soft blue, but here on the rock faces it’s built in layers. A thicker stroke of paint just catches the afternoon sun along that ridge. The light falls so evenly. It’s warm where it grazes the cliffs. The air feels still, as if the rocks themselves are holding their breath.
