About This Work

Andros descends in pale terraces, dry earth stepping down in long gradients toward a narrow cobalt line at the sea.

The eye enters across a textured foreground of dry earth and low scrub, moves through middle ground hills shaped by old terracing, and rests where the horizon meets sea. Sun-bleached ochre and warm white carry the high ground, answered by muted olive green in the brush and clear cobalt at the far edge. Brushwork shifts between thin washes for distance and thicker, broken touches in the nearer rock, edges softened so each plane settles into the next. Light falls evenly from above, diffuse and clean, leaving only shallow shadows in the folds of the slope. Midday holds over the island, slow and unhurried, and time seems to rest on the warm stone.
