Red Caïque in Skopelos
MK2201
About This Work
A single red caïque sits off the Skopelos shore, its hull vivid against flat cerulean beneath a high midday sun.
The caïque holds the eye first, its bright red playing against cerulean and teal water that opens out to the left. Behind it, a low ridge of pale stone suggests the Skopelos shoreline, layered into the distance. Brushwork shifts as you look: tighter, surer touches define the rigging and weathered hull, while the sea is laid in with looser strokes and small white flickers that catch the light. Sunlight falls from high overhead, crisp and direct, leaving short shadows along the boat's flank and a soft sparkle across the swell. The horizon stays calm, almost level. Heat settles over the water, slow and patient, holding the small vessel in its long afternoon.
