About This Work
Terracotta rooftops hold the midday light, stacked against a long stretch of Aegean blue.
A deep calm settles over the whole scene. That warm, sun-baked color runs across the stone and rooftops, a beautiful ochre that feels so solid against the blue of the sea. It's almost all earth tones, except for those few cypress greens standing watch over the masonry. Look at the brushwork, how it changes. Up close, the paint feels thick and dry on the stone, but as your eye moves back, everything softens into a thin haze where the horizon rests. Light falls cleanly from above. Shadows are cool and short, the edges softened just enough to make the buildings breathe. Time slows here, and the island holds its long, sunlit hush.
