Skyros, The Rock with Houses
MK125
About This Work
Skyros: pale houses climb the cliff face, their lit facades rising above a base of ochre and gray stone.
It’s as if the village grew right out of the rock, isn’t it? The houses just follow the upward sweep of the cliff, tucked into every ridge. I love the warmth of those sun-bleached whites and soft ochres against the deep, earthy grays and browns of the stone itself. And see the light? It feels like morning, just catching the fronts of the buildings. The brushwork is sharp for their edges but softens for the weathered rock. The shadows aren’t dramatic—they’re just enough to give everything its form. A deep quiet settles over it all, the kind of stillness where time slows down.
