Still Life with Sardines
MK314
About This Work
A loose pile of sardines rests just left of centre, their silver-blue scales lit softly against off-white linen.
There's a quiet patience to this little scene. The fish are gathered just to one side, their bodies overlapping, balanced by the ceramic bowl and that rumpled cloth. And the colors—the cool, metallic silver of the fish sits so gently against the warm earth of the bowl and the simple off-white linen. You can feel the difference in the paint, too. It’s smooth and slick on the scales, but becomes drier, more tactile, on the weave of the cloth. Light comes in softly from the side, rounding each form without any drama, settling into quiet shadows beneath. The air carries the hush of an interior where a meal waits, unhurried, and time slows around the table.
