Storm in Skopelos
MK306
About This Work
A storm moves over Skopelos, sea and sky meeting in a rush of motion. The island waits, a firm presence against the coming change.
Movement flows from the churning water below toward the heavy clouds above. The horizon line sits low, giving weight to the sea’s unrest and the sky’s immensity. Jagged crests and wind-formed clouds cross in a tense rhythm, while the island remains a dark, quiet silhouette, anchoring the scene. Deep indigos and slate grays fill the air, touched only by white foam and pale ochres on the shore. The cool tones suggest a damp chill, while hints of violet in the cloud shadows add complexity. On the land, warm earth hues offer a gentle counterpoint. Confident, wet strokes feel the flow of water and air, as drier marks find the shape of stone. The paint itself, thick on the waves and thin as mist, creates a sense of nearness. Nature alone holds this moment, a world without figures. Silence sits over the island.
