Sunset in Kalymnos
MK278
About This Work
Kalymnos at the last light — an orange sky drawn tight over stone houses clustered along the cliff's edge.
The whole island seems to slow down in this last light. The sky opens up so wide, and see how that cluster of houses holds the edge of the land? The light comes in low, catching on the stone and making it glow. It washes everything in that warm coral color, which meets the cool blues and deep indigos gathering at the water's edge. And the brushwork… it’s so soft in the air and water, but you can feel the texture of the rock and old masonry where the paint is thicker. A quiet settles over the village, holding the long pause between day and night.
