Trees by the Sea
M2312
About This Work
Two dark trees anchor the left edge, their olive-grey crowns set against a wide teal sea and open sky.
There’s a quietness here, a kind of held breath along the coast. See how the trees pull all the weight to one side, and then the sea and sky just open up beside them? Their foliage holds deep olive and silver-grey against the cool teal of the water, with just that little line of warm ochre for the shore. The paint itself changes, too—it feels rough and dry on the bark, but then it’s drawn into long, smooth strokes for the water. The light is high and soft. It catches just a little on the waves. A deep hush settles over everything, the way time slows by the sea.
