Village in Mist
M521
About This Work
Terracotta rooftops step up the hillside, their warm tones yielding gradually to a wash of pale lavender mist.
A deep quiet rests over the whole village. The rooftops cluster along the hills, leading from here all the way back until they seem to dissolve into the sky. The silvery blues of the mist are met by the warm off-whites and ochre of the walls, with just little touches of terracotta and sage green breaking through. You can almost feel how the paint was put on—softer and blurred in the distance, but sharper on the edges of the buildings. The light is so even, no hard shadows, just a gentle haze that lets the houses hold their weight. A quiet settles over everything, the kind of hour when time slows.
