Wet Attica Landscape, Shimmering Waters
MK799
About This Work
Rain has just passed through, the Attic earth still dark with it, shallow pools catching the low sun in long silver lines.
There's a freshness to this light, the kind that comes right after a downpour. The shoreline opens from soft, warm earth—all ochre and umber—out across the pooled water. Far in the distance, hills just dissolve into the air. The cool blues and silvery grays of the water rest against the land, with muted greens breathing through the low plants. The paint itself tells the story, gliding smoothly over the wet reflections, then catching with a drier touch on the rocky ground. The light is low and soft, stretching out the shadows without giving them an edge. A held quiet settles over the wet ground, the kind that follows rain in open country.
