About This Work
Scattered column drums lie across parched ground, their pale marble holding the last warmth of a late-afternoon sun.
A quiet reverence settles over this whole site. Your eye just drifts from the cracked earth and rubble near us, past the ruins, and out toward those soft hills on the horizon. The palette is so gentle—warm ochres and sun-bleached whites meet terracotta in the stone, with just touches of sage from the plants. It all rests under that hazy lavender sky. And look at the light. It’s so low, pulling long, soft shadows from every block. The paint feels thicker up close, letting you feel the grain of the weathered marble, then it softens into the distance. Time itself feels slow here.
