Cypriot Landscape

About This Work
A single cypress interrupts the flat stretch of the Cypriot plain, set against dry earth and a bleached midday sky.
There’s a deep quiet here, a sun-baked patience to the land. You can almost feel the dry soil and scrub underfoot, rolling through fields toward those distant, blue-grey mountains. All the earth tones are here—burnt sienna, dusty umber—with silvery olive greens scattered across the slopes. And look at the brushwork, how it’s dry and broken on the rocks but then softens for the far-off hills. Light falls from high up, without sharp edges, the kind of diffused midday glow that makes the distance hazy. A lone cypress stands against all the long, horizontal lines. It feels so patient, so still, as if the whole island holds its breath.
