About This Work

Near Thessaloniki, the burial mounds of Derveni describe slow, rounded forms across the canvas—ancient ground rendered with patience.

The eye moves laterally, carried by the gentle rhythm of earth forms that crest and dip through the middle ground before settling toward a paler band at the horizon. Earth tones—ochre, burnt umber, muted olive green, dust gray, warm sienna—hold the surface together without insistence. The brushwork is deliberate and softly built, with dry touches catching the granular feel of the ground while broader passages keep edges merged and unhurried. Light arrives diffuse, almost without direction, so shadows pool gently rather than cut, letting the topography breathe. There are no figures, no markers—only land. A long quiet settles over the mounds, as if the ground itself were keeping a memory.
