Folegandros, Houses and Church
M969
About This Work
A single cobalt dome crowns Folegandros, the pale cubic houses descending in tiers down the parched hillside below.
A bright stillness rests on everything here. That single cobalt dome seems to hold it all together, anchoring the cascade of houses as they step down the slope. The walls are just chalk-white simplicity, rising from the rocky ground and its earthy ochres. So simple. Behind the rooftops, the sky opens into smooth, fluid blues—a soft contrast to the drier, broken touches of the terrain. Look at how the light falls, so clean and sharp, pulling crisp shadows along every eave and pathway. A bright midday quiet settles over the island.
