Landscape in Marathon
MK322
About This Work
Marathon's plain stretches open, warm earth in the foreground giving way to pale, receding hills.
A stillness spreads out with the land itself. It unfolds in these slow horizontal bands—the warm earth in front of us giving way to softer olive and sage greens. Way back, the distant hills are just a cool wash of blue. The paint is thick right here, defining the soil, but as you look toward the horizon, it gets thinner, almost a haze where the sky begins. Light falls so gently, a diffuse glow that lets shadows rest quietly on the slopes. There are no people. Just the long memory of the ground. A deep quiet sits over everything, patient, the way time slows in a place that has waited forever.
