About This Work
Pale tiers of houses step up the Pelion hillside, their blue shutters sharp against the flat noon light and dry sage below.
A deep quiet seems to have settled over the whole village. The houses climb the hillside, one after another. The brushwork that shapes their tiled roofs and pale fronts feels so clean and deliberate. Those little notes of deep blue in the shutters find an echo in the warm ochre paths and the earth tones of older stone. The greens in the foreground are dry—sage and olive. Then the land opens up, the paint softening as the hills drift back into the air. The light has such clarity, falling straight down, casting cool shadows that feel almost lavender. The whole scene carries the slow warmth of midday, and time seems to rest on the rooftops.
